Building a Community-Led Climate Resilience Plan for CMPI and North Omaha

Comunidad Maya Pixán Ixim (CMPI) is bringing the North Omaha community together to create a practical roadmap for Zip Code 68111 and a replicable model for Indigenous-led climate adaptation nationwide. The project is centered on our Grant Street location, which we envision will continue to grow into an agroforestry community with housing, community centers, and agricultural land. This project will ensure that our future plans support the creation of an adaptable and resilient North Omaha community.

We're honored to be one of only 28 organizations nationwide selected to receive a grant from the Climate Smart Communities Initiative (CSCI), a public-private partnership helping communities across the country plan and prepare for extreme weather and other climate impacts. This award includes $96,440 in funding along with technical support from climate adaptation experts at Verdis Group, allowing us to bring this vision to life alongside the community.

We would love to have you involved in this initiative: take our survey, sign up for a workshop (coming soon), or take advantage of one of the many other opportunities to share your perspective.
